b&b109 What is Brexit and how will it affect you?
The European Union – often known as the EU – is an economic and political partnership involving 28 European countries. It began after World War Two to foster economic co-operation, with the idea that countries which trade together are more likely to avoid going to war with each other. It started with 6 members, and has since grown to become a “single market” allowing goods and people to move around, basically as if the member states were one country.
The prime minister said Brexit could cause a “”black hole”” in the public finances and threaten the “”triple lock”” guaranteeing state pension increases. We are not experts on this; we are trying to put together all the info. It’s too early to tell how this is going to shake out, but it is important to be aware of it, recognize parallels between what went on there, and what is happening here.
